The natives, long used to working the land, did not notice much difference, but woe to the people responsible for a loss of production or drought. The Silhouette of Stars is a brutal master, who does not accept any excuse, natural or legitimate, for a failure to meet expectations. This results in a high turnover of personnel, corruption, and frequent slurring of numbers for the sake of survival.
